By Aaniquah Dicks · Prices checked 23 October 2026
The short answer
Most South African small business websites cost R5 000 to R20 000 for 5 to 10 pages, going by the agency price guides we checked. Simple template sites can cost R2 000 to R5 000, and larger custom builds run from R15 000 to well over R75 000.
Price ranges in 2026
| Type of site | Typical price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Budget template site | R2 000 to R5 000 | Clevex |
| Small business site, 5 to 10 pages | R5 000 to R20 000 | HostAfrica, New Perspective |
| Custom corporate site | R15 000 to R50 000 | HostAfrica |
| Complex or large builds | R75 000 to R250 000+ | Blacksnow, Advertising Solutions |
If you pay by the hour, HostAfrica puts South African freelancers at about R250 to R800 an hour and agencies at R800 to R2 500 or more. These figures come from agencies' own price guides, so treat them as a guide, not a quote.
What changes the price
Pages and content
A one-page menu costs far less than a 20-page site, and someone has to write the words and take the photos.
Features
Bookings, payments, registration forms and links to your other systems all add build and testing time.
Design
A ready-made template is cheaper. A design made for your brand takes longer and costs more.
Timeline and sign-offs
Rush jobs and long approval chains with many people both push the price up.
Costs people forget
- Your domain name
- A .co.za address is a yearly cost. Ours renews at R110 a year with xneelo (October 2026).
- Hosting
- A simple, fast site can run on a free hosting plan. Online shops and booking systems usually come with monthly fees.
- Email on your domain
- An address like hello@yourbusiness.co.za usually needs a mail plan. xneelo, for example, charges R9 a month for an extra mailbox.
- Updates after launch
- Menus, prices and timetables change. Ask whether updates are included, charged per job or covered by a monthly plan.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Will the domain be registered in my name?
- Can I see live sites you have built?
- What is included after launch, and what costs extra?
- Are there monthly fees, and what happens if I stop paying them?
- Will it work properly on a phone? Most of your customers will visit on one.

- How much does a basic website cost in South Africa?
- Agency figures we checked in October 2026 put budget template sites at about R2 000 to R5 000 and most small business sites at R5 000 to R20 000. Our one-page Starter site is R600.
- Are there monthly costs after the website is built?
- Usually a yearly domain fee, and sometimes hosting, email or a maintenance plan. Our packages are once-off, and the R120/month retainer for updates is optional.
- Why do website prices vary so much?
- The number of pages, the features, how custom the design is, and how fast you need it. A one-page menu and a 20-page corporate site are very different jobs.
- How long does it take to build a website?
- Most of our small business sites are done within 5 to 7 business days. Larger custom builds take longer and are planned with you.
